10 Acetone-Free Vegan Nail Polish Removers
Since I paint my nails regularly for VBR’s weekly cruelty-free Mani Monday feature, I often get asked about vegan and cruelty-free nail polish removers – specifically acetone-free ones. In case you’re wondering, most acetone is a by-product of the manufacturing of plastics – womp and gross. Non-acetone polish removers typically contain ethyl acetate (an organic compound) as their active ingredient. They’re less toxic, gentler and on your skin and nails and not as stanky – but they do require a lil’ more grunt work, which I think it totally a fair trade-off.
10 Acetone-Free Vegan Nail Polish Removers
- Gabriel Cosmetics Nail Polish Remover Pads,** $6.50 – These pre-soaked nail polish remover pads are my absolute fave (of the ones I’ve tried)! They’re non-drying with a gentle and conditioning formula, they’re super travel-friendly, affordable, and they have a pleasant citrusy scent. They take polish off effortlessly, too! Ingredients: Methyl Acetate, Aqua, Polysorbate 20, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Limonene, Organic Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol
- Honeybee Gardens Nail Polish Remover, $9.99 – This formula is enriched with horsetail extract to strengthen nails and is fortified with vitamin E and aloe to soothe and protect cuticles. Ingredients: Methyl acetate, butoxydiglycol, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, equisetum arvense (horsetail) extract, tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E), fragrance.
- Josie Maran Bear Naked Nail Wipes, $9 – These travel-friendly 3-in-1 nail wipes remove nail polish, repair dry cuticles, and promote healthy nails naturally. They’re infused with argan oil (yassssss!) and have a zesty grapefruit scent. Ingredients: dimethyl glutarate, cyclopentasiloxane, dimethyl adipate, ethylhexyl palmitate, organic argania spinosa (argan) kernel oil, dimethyl succinate, parfum (fragrance)
- Karma Organic Soybean Oil and Lavender Nail Polish Remover, $12 – I haven’t tried this formula yet, but I love the glass packaging, affordability, and lavender scent. Will have to get my manicured paws on this baby stat! Ingredients: propylene carbonate, soybean oil methyl ester, tocopheryl acetate
- Marley Marie Naturals (Black Currant Vanilla), $6.50 – I recently gave this a whirl, and although I love the affordability, scent combos, glass packaging, and conditioning formula, it took quite awhile to remove my polish, especially with a top coat. Ingredients: PPG-2 methyl ether acetate, Hydroxymethyl dioxolanone (plant-derived), Fragrance (contains natural oils), Vanilla planifolia fruit extract, Ribes nigrum (black currant) seed oil, Citrus medica limonum (lemon) peel oil, Tocopherol acetate (vitamin E).
- Mineral Fusion Nail Polish Remover, $7.99 – This gentle, acetone-free formula promises to easily removes even the darkest shades of nail polish without drying nails. Ingredients: Methyl Acetate, Isopropyl Myristate, Fragrance.
- Piggy Paint Nail Polish Remover, $7.99 – I haven’t tried this formula yet, but it’s seems simple and conditioning. I love their line of kid-frindly polishes and I’m looking forward to trying this out, too. Ingredients: Corn alcohol (Ethyl Alcohol), Aloe Vera, Vitamin E, embittering agent.
- Priti NYC 916-Soy Nail Polish Remover, $22.50 – This formula is 100% biodegradable, non-toxic and non-carcinogenic. In fact, according to their website, it’s derived from farm crops. It’s def one of the pricier polish removers. Ingredients: Methyl Soyate, Dimethyl Adipate, Dimethyl Glutarate
- Trust Fund Beauty Nail Polish Remover, $22 – This is a non-acetone, non-toxic, non flammable, eco friendly, plant-based nail polish remover that smells like mint! It’s designed to nourish your nails while safely removing your nail polish. I’ve yet to try this formula but I think it’s safe to say they have the simplest, purest and eco-friendliest ingredients. Super curious to see how it performs… pricy, tho’. Ingredients: Biodegradable Esters, USDA certified Organic Essential Oil Blend
- ella + mila Soy Nail Polish Remover, $20 – This formula is enriched with Vitamins A, C & E as well as Lavender Essential Oil. Although this is a safer option to acetone polish removers, it’s a bit spensy and still has some questionable ingredients like PEG-8.
